1. What is DP Billiard Academy?
DP Billiard Academy is private billiards coaching in The Villages, Florida. Lessons are taught by Stan Martin, a professional billiards instructor, PBIA member, ACS member, and founder of DP Billiard Academy. The focus is deliberate practice: structured drills, measurable goals, video feedback, and a clear plan for improvement.
2. Where are lessons taught?
Lessons are taught in a private training room in The Villages, Florida, on a 9-foot Rasson billiard table.
3. Who teaches the courses?
Courses are taught by Coach Stan Martin. Stan is a professional billiards instructor, PBIA member, ACS member, and founder of DP Billiard Academy. He also runs the Sur De 44 billiards league in The Villages.
4. Who are DP Academy courses for?
DP Academy works with beginning, intermediate, and advanced players. Some courses focus on fundamentals and stroke mechanics, while others are designed for players who already pocket balls but want better draw, cue-ball control, English, banks, kicks, shotmaking, or video-based correction.
5. I am a beginner. Which course should I start with?
Most beginning to intermediate players should start with Core Skills Billiards. This course builds the foundation: stroke mechanics, alignment, pre-shot routine, stop/follow/draw basics, and a better understanding of how to practice.
6. I already play well. Which course should I choose?
Intermediate and advanced players should review the Advanced Courses section. Good options include Precision Draw, Advanced Cue Ball Control, English & Throw, Banks & Kicks, Shotmaking, Custom Refresher, Video Analysis, and Unedited Video.
7. What is the Core Skills Billiards course?
Core Skills Billiards is a 5-hour course for beginning to intermediate players who want stronger fundamentals. It includes foundation work, skill assessment, three-angle video capture, stroke rhythm, aiming/contact points, stop/follow/draw fundamentals, real-table transfer drills, and video-based correction.
8. What are the Advanced Courses?
Advanced Courses are focused 5-hour courses for intermediate to advanced players. Current options include Precision Draw, Advanced Cue Ball Control, English & Throw, Banks & Kicks, and Shotmaking. These courses use structured reps, immediate feedback, and measurable practice targets.
9. What is Precision Draw?
Precision Draw helps players produce cleaner, longer, more predictable draw by matching tip contact, cue speed, and stroke delivery.
10. What is Advanced Cue Ball Control?
Advanced Cue Ball Control helps players improve position play and speed control using stop, stun, follow, draw, speed windows, and vertical-axis cue-ball control.
11. What is English & Throw?
English & Throw helps players understand and use sidespin more reliably. It covers practical use of English, Back-Hand English, Front-Hand English, throw, squirt, swerve, and the aiming adjustments needed to play position without guessing.
12. What are Banks & Kicks?
Banks & Kicks helps players learn practical banking and kicking systems, including Plus Two, Corner Five, 2:1 banking references, and Twice Plus Tenths adjustments.
13. What is Shotmaking?
Shotmaking helps players improve potting accuracy under pressure through repeatable aim routines, contact precision, stroke-speed calibration, and measurable tracking.
14. What is the Custom Refresher course?
The Custom Refresher is for returning DP Academy students who want updated video analysis, correction of lingering faults, and a focused improvement plan based on their current game.
15. What is Video Analysis?
Video Analysis includes front, side, and rear stroke video plus written analysis of stroke faults, alignment, pre-shot routine, cue delivery, and recommended corrections. It is useful when a player wants a clearer diagnosis of what is happening in the stroke.
16. What is Unedited Video?
Unedited Video provides front, side, and rear video for self-review, with no written analysis included. This option is for players who simply want to see their stroke from multiple angles.
17. How long are the courses and what do they cost?
Most full courses are 5 hours and are listed at $150 for a single student. The Custom Refresher is listed as 3 hours and $100. If a course page or announcement gives a different current price or format, use the course page or announcement as the current reference.
18. How do I book a course?
Use the Book a Course page or contact Coach Stan directly. Please include the course you are interested in, your current skill level, your main improvement goal, preferred days/times, and any questions Stan should know before scheduling.
19. What should I bring to a lesson?
Bring your cue if you have one, comfortable shoes, and an open mind. If you have a specific problem shot, recent match issue, or practice goal, tell Stan before or at the start of the lesson.
20. How do I know which course is right for me?
If you are unsure, contact Stan and describe your current level, what you struggle with most, and what you want to improve. Stan can recommend the best starting point, whether that is Core Skills, a focused Advanced Course, Video Analysis, or a Custom Refresher.
